Hatha Yoga includes sequences of asanas (yoga poses) designed to calm the mind, reduce stress, increase flexibility and strength.

  • VinyasaVinyasa is a style of yoga characterized by stringing together postures. In a vinyasa class students are guided to coordinate breath and movement in a mindful flow from one pose to the next seamlessly. The posture flow is continuous and can be vigorous.                                                                                           Appropriate for students with some yoga experience as the posture  flow is continuous

Students are introduced to yoga posture in a step-by-step demonstration including verbal description and posture name.                                                                                                            Beginners is appropriate for new students and experienced students.

  • Yin Yoga -  Yin Yoga is a series of slow stationary yoga postures held for up to 3- 5 minutes or longer. The long holds done while seated on the floor target the bodies connective tissue such as fascia, ligaments and tendons. Yin Yoga improves range of motion in the bodies joints and helps prevent joint rigidity. The bodies joints and meridians are both equally nourished. Like acupuncture or acupressure the steadiness of long held yin postures invites chi into specific meridian pathways nourishing the corresponding organs.                                                                                                    Appropriate for all student levels

  • Trauma Informed Yoga  - “Trauma is not just an event that took place sometime in the past; it is also the imprint left by the experience on mind, brain, and body.” - Bassel van der Kolk                                                                         While single-event trauma and complex trauma and developmental trauma differ, both evoke the bodies nervous system fight/flight/freeze response. If we are unable or not given the opportunity to process and release the trauma or sense of shock we may remain stuck in a state of hypo-arousal or hyper-arousal. These feelings of hyper- vigilance or being shut down leave “traumatized people chronically feeling unsafe inside their bodies. The past is alive in the form of gnawing discomfort” says van dear Kolk.                                                                                                                    Trauma Informed Yoga focuses on present state awareness. Students are invited gradually into body awareness through the practice of interoceptive yoga. Students are given choices how to move their bodies in each yoga shape and guided to notice sensations. Each shape is an invitation to take back control of their body and practice making healthy choices for their body, mind and soul. There is no assisting or touching the students.  Trauma Informed Yoga does not involve accessing traumatic memories or sharing traumatic experiences in class. Students learn to manage different energy states in the body slowly through out the practice including stimulating and calming yoga practices and shapes. The emphasis on breathing and mindfulness combined with yoga shapes guides students to learn to calm their minds and regulate their physical responses there by managing their emotions.                                                                                                                                                                  Appropriate for students without yoga experience and students with experience.
